Police are continuing enquiries into the death of a Venezuelan woman at her St James home on Thursday night.

Police said residents of Flagstaff Hill, Long Circular Road, St James, reported a domestic disturbance at the home of Jhandrys Espinoza, at around 7.45 pm.

When they got to the house a male relative answered the door and told the police she was sleeping.

Police insisted on seeing Espinoza to make sure she was safe, and were taken to the bedroom, where she was found unresponsive. A district medical officer was called in and declared her dead.

Police said the 42-year-old relative was interviewed and reportedly admitted to strangling Espinoza after an argument earlier that night.

An autopsy is expected to be done at the Forensic Science Centre, St James, on Friday.
