Tobago man charged for beating nephew, 10

A Tobago man was charged for beating his ten-year-old nephew after he ran away from home to avoid a Zoom class.

A police report said the man, from Argyle, went to get the child from his aunt's home after his mother asked him to prepare for his virtual class on Tuesday.

A neighbour reported the incident to the police and an investigation revealed the child was not only beaten, but was also dragged in the street on the way back to his mother.

Police said the child's grandparents intervened and stopped the uncle from beating him.

Within hours the 32-year-old man was arrested and charged with one count of assault occasioning bodily harm hours later. He is expected to appear virtually before a Scarborough magistrate on Thursday.
