Repair holey roads

THE EDITOR: While the country is spending millions to build highways, thousands of citizens are being treated with scant courtesy. In certain areas there are no pavements and residents have no choice but to walk in the pothole-riddled roads, endangering themselves.

Drivers also put themselves in peril trying to manoeuvre around and in-between the potholes, some of which are better described as craters. Taxpayers deserve better than this.

Why should people have to protest to get roads repaired? This has been a perennial problem but the Government seems more concerned with building highways than maintaining existing roadways.

I am calling on the Minister of Works and Transport to spend some of the millions to fix the dilapidated roads. And please, the job must be done properly. Not the regular quick-fixes where after a few days the roads are back to square one.

I look forward to seeing a drive to improve the living conditions of citizens by giving them proper roads. Everyone needs to be treated fairly.
