Point Fortin/San Fernando taxi drivers say if the “deplorable roads” throughout their route are not fixed soon, they will protest.

Potholes are not unique to this route, but in areas including Dow Village, Rousillac, Vessigny, Vance River and others there are many dug-up areas, rough areas and pipeline leaks that often damage vehicles.

In fact, one taxi driver told Newsday his car got stuck in one of the potholes in La Brea last week.

President of the Point Fortin/San Fernando Taxi Drivers’ Association John David said it was not only taxi drivers that were suffering but all drivers who use the route daily.

“We glad that the highway is coming but we need maintenance of the current road. We need to get repairs done or fixed.

“WASA (Water and Sewerage Authority) is one of the biggest contributors to the bad roads.”

One driver said, “When they are paving back the roads, they are not really paving it, they are just patching it, so it feels like a hump on the road.”

Some drivers said, if the issue was not rectified soon, they might stage protests by parking inside of potholes en route to Point Fortin.

“We spending money monthly on repairs,” one driver said, “And it is costing us more than ever before because it is in a deplorable condition.”
