Ministry to distribute Beetham flood relief cheques soon

THE Ministry of Social Development and Family Services will distribute flood relief cheques to residents of Beetham Gardens and environs soon. A release on Wednesday said the cheques are still being finalised.

Recent overcrowding at the ministry on St Vincent Street, Port of Spain, which goes against the Health Ministry’s covid19 guidelines, prompted the announcement.

The release said the ministry is distributing rental assistance cheques for covid19 social support to the landlords of tenants who were financially affected by the pandemic. So to ensure physical distancing protocols are met, all flood relief cheques will be distributed separately at a suitable space for Beetham and other affected areas.

The ministry prepared cheques at the end of the financial year to satisfy claims made by people affected by flooding and all other natural disasters, the release said.

It advised people to avoid gathering in large crowds at all the ministry’s offices to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
