$2m bail for two men charged with trying to post cocaine

TWO men were granted bail of $2 million when they appeared before a Port of Spain magistrate charged with trying to post a quantity of cocaine and possession of a dangerous drug.

The two, Nigel Robley and Lyndon Haynes, appeared virtually before the Second Court magistrate on Friday. Robley was charged with attempting to post $1.03 million worth of cocaine, which weighed 1.1 kilogrammes, and Haynes was charged with possession of three kilogrammes of cocaine, said to be worth $3 million.

Robley, who was represented by attorneys Om Lalla and Raphael Morton-Gittens, was granted bail of $500,000 to be approved with a cash-bail alternative of $50,000.

Haynes was granted bail of $1.5 million to be approved.

Both men are to report to the police station closest to where they live.

Haynes is represented by attorney Mario Merritt.

In a statement on Thursday, the police said cocaine worth $4.5 million was seized by the Western Division's Gang Unit at an office building in Port of Spain on Wednesday.

In a release, the police said they searched the building and found three packets of cocaine in one man's possession, They also searched a car on the premises and found six packets of cocaine. Two men were arrested.

The exercise was co-ordinated by Snr Supt Kelvern Thompson, Supt Smith and acting ASP Coggins, and included members of the Western Division’s Gang Unit and the Canine Unit.
