ANOTHER entertainer is seeking help with his medical bills.

Rennie Ramnarine of Dil-E-Nadan was diagnosed with end-stage kidney failure over a year ago. His family, including younger brothers Richard and Raymond, who perform alongside him in the band started by their father, made a public appeal for a kidney donor in September 2019.

Ramnarine has now developed heart problems and is unable to undergo surgery. He is seeking help to offset his medical expenses.

A GoFundMe account (charity.gofundme.com/help-rennie) has been opened to assist the singer and musician. A goal of $20,000 has been set. In 11 hours $3,450 was raised.

Only recently the public learnt that soca artiste Dexter “Blaxx” Stewart was also ill and close friends and fans have reached out to help.

Entertainers are among the hardest hit by the pandemic.

On the page seeking assistance, Ramnarine revealed he was diagnosed with renal failure in February 2019.

“As a result I am currently undergoing dialysis three times a week at the Acropolis Medical Centre in San Fernando. Patients with end-stage renal failure need some form of dialysis therapy as a bridge while they wait for a kidney transplant,” he said.

In January, Ramnarine spent three weeks at the San Fernando General Hospital – one week in the intensive care unit (ICU) and two additional weeks in the general ward.

While he was" lucky to come out alive," his heart was damaged by the state of of his kidneys. "When the kidneys are not working well your hormone system, which regulates blood pressure, has to work harder to increase blood supply to the kidneys. When this happens, your heart has to pump harder, which can lead to heart disease,” he explained.

Owing to the deteriorating condition of his heart, Ramnarine said he is unable to undergo a kidney transplant at this time. He said he has had multiple procedures to improve the health of his heart to facilitate the kidney transplant.

“With no means of income due to my deteriorating health and the lockdown of the entertainment industry...which I am a part of, I am humbly seeking your support in order to continue my fight to survive.

“I will continue to update everyone on my progress as I remain positive that I will overcome this obstacle and be able to survive.”

Ramnarine thanked Restoring Paradise for initiating this support structure in order to help him, as well as friends, family and fans who have supported him all along.
