THE families whose roofs were blown off by a tornado on Wednesday have received help from the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) as well as from their families and neighbours.

The tornado destroyed the roofs of three houses in Ragoonanan Road West, Chase Village at around 1 pm on Wednesday.

Khadene Crowe, 39, had told Newsday she was at work when the incident occurred but her husband and three children were home.

The children were doing online classes, and when one of them went to close the windows, they saw the tornado. The roof was gone soon after.

Speaking with Newsday on Thursday morning, her sister Kristal Beharry said they are staying at her St Mary’s home.

“Right now, they are fully moving the roof. The vehicle couldn’t come into the street so they had to cut it. We covered down everything with tarpaulin.

“ODPM came and they dropped some mattresses by my other sister. I think she said they dropped some bedsheets as well. It was four mattresses in total.”

She said the children are still “very shaken up” by the incident but the adults will continue to comfort them.
