A 34-year-old Toco man has been charged with breaching a protection order and assaulting a woman.

A police media release said Robert George, of Cumana Depot Road, Cumana, Toco, was held weeks after allegedly assaulting the woman on October 10. Police said she was granted a protection order on February 13.

The order prohibited him from engaging in, or threatening to engage in any act of domestic violence towards her, including verbal and physical abuse, for a period of two years.

On September, 23, the release said, the woman was at home with her children and George when they began arguing.

George allegedly grabbed her by her face and neck, then hit her in the abdomen.

A report was made to the Sangre Grande Police Station on October 4 and WPC Narine of the Gender Based Violence Unit (GBVU) took over the matter. The victim reportedly told police that she did not report the incident earlier because she was hopeful that the relationship would have improved. She also identified several marks on her face, neck and left upper arm which she said she received on September 23.
