Police are investigating the attack on Andreina Briceño Brown, director of the Arima Hispanic Cultural Centre (HCC), on Monday night at her home.

Neighbours from Tumpuna Gardens, Arima, had reported that someone at her house had been shot. Briceno Brown's husband took her to the Arima Hospital. She is in stable condition and was transferred to Mt Hope Hospital.

The police report says around 7.30 pm on Monday, Brown and her husband Valentine returned home from Massy Stores Cocorite Road, when they were accosted by three men, one of whom had a gun. The men stole a gold chain and a cellphone.

They made both victims lie on the ground. During the struggle to remove the chain, the gun went off and Briceno Brown was shot in the left shoulder. She also suffered a blow to the head.

Police told Newsday, while they don't have a clear lead on who the bandits could be, the incident was similar to other home invasions in which bandits have followed victims home from banks. Relatives showed the police footage from security cameras. The three men drove off in a grey vehicle that was waiting for them in front of the house.
