A Barrackpore woman, who posed as a police inspector, conducting her own traffic exercises, earlier this year, is in police custody after a sting operation in Marabella on Sunday afternoon.

Marabella police and investigators from the Fraud Squad found the 46-year-old woman, who was in hiding for the past three months.

She is expected to be interviewed by investigators for a number of offences.

Police said she claimed to be a member of a secret special operations unit and solicited money from people with the promise of providing them with a clean certificate of good character.

She was also wanted for soliciting money from businesses.

Investigators described the woman as a "career fraudster" who was known to impersonate people in authority.
