Siparia man charged for killing ex-wife

Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Joan Honore-Paul has advised that Sunil Dookie be charged with the murder of his ex-wife Reshma Kanchan.

Dookie is being held at the Gasparillo police station and is expected to appear before a Siparia magistrate on Monday morning, via a virtual hearing.

Dookie, 36, of Thompson Trace, Siparia can be sentenced to life in prison if convicted.

On September 29, Kanchan was ambushed and murdered while she was on her way to work as a part-time URP worker at a nearby primary school.

Police said Kanchan, 25, was a mother of two girls, ages two and five. She was attacked with a cutlass and her head was almost severed.

The accused was found with self-inflicted injuries to his neck and smoking a cigarette.

The incident occurred around 9 am at Laltoo Trace in Penal.
