Lotto agents want NLCB audit

THE Electronic Lotto Agents Association of TT (ELAATT) wants a forensic audit of the National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB). In a statement, ELAATT made this call to the Prime Minister and Finance Minister Colm Imbert

ELAATT vice president Dean Persad claimed that previous concerns raised by the association about operations at the NLCB have fallen on deaf ears. Persad said the association remains concerned over the prevalence of illegal play whe activities which the authorities seem unwilling to tackle.

“This illegal activity costs the country over $3 billion annually. It has been over nine years now that the association has been raising this issue.”

Persad added that this activity is bleeding TT of much needed foreign exchange.

He claimed there is bias in the distribution of lotto machines and lengthy response times to calls to repair these machines.

Persad also claimed the NLCB spent $7 million in unneccessary advertisements last year He said money spent on certain sponsorships by the NLCB could be deferred in light of the economic challenges facing TT.

Persad claimed a request for a pandemic relief grant for lotto agents that was made since May 20 was ignored.

He said the association will continue to raise its concerns in the hope they will be addressed, leading to better savings at the NLCB and more revenue for TT.
