Two new covid19 deaths bring total to 86

Two more people have died from covid19, bringing the total number of deaths to 86.

The Health Ministry’s release on Thursday evening said 76 new cases had been reported in the last 24 hours, although the number of cases reported usually reflects the samples taken during the last three days and not the last 24 hours.

Of the 76 new cases, 24 came from one source, the prison population in Tobago.

Active cases now stand at 1,801, and the total number of cases since March is 4,963.

There are now 3,076 recovered patients.

There are 108 people in hospital, no patients in step-down facilities, 173 people in state quarantine facilities, and 1,693 people in home self-isolation.

The total number of people tested to date stands at 30,032.

The ministry’s update in its new form does not include several details presented in previous releases, such as the number of unique and repeated tests, the number of people discharged from public health facilities, the number of recovered community cases, and the number of patients at each hospital.

Most importantly, it does not give the number of new deaths compared to the previous day.

Although the Chief Medical Officer said at Wednesday’s media conference that additional information would be available on the ministry’s website, neither the 4 pm release nor the additional information were there up to 5.15 pm on Thursday.

Calls and e-mails to the Ministry of Health on these details were not answered.
