FOUR women and two men who were caught liming on the beach and charged with breaching the Public Health Ordinance appeared virtually before a Mayaro magistrate on Wednesday.

Sharlene Ganesh, 36; Shivanna Sinanan, 20; Aaliah Herbert, 18; Adrian Medrano, 39; Evelyn Desantos, 41; and Arthur Phillips, 49, were taken before magistrate Nizam Khan. They all pleaded guilty.

The friends told the magistrate they all thought they were not restricted from the beach, but only the water. Police court prosecutor Sgt Ramdhan told the court that the six were found liming at the Plaisance Beach in Mayaro at 4.30 pm.

Under the Public Health Coronavirus Regulations, any person found at or in any beach, river, stream, or spring, unless the presence of that person is essential for the carrying out or provision of a service specified in subsection of the rules, will be charged.

The six were charged by WPC King of the Eastern Division Police Task Force.

Herbert and Sinanan were later reprimanded and discharged and  the rest were each put on a $30,000 bond to keep the peace for a year.
