Police shot and killed a man as they were about to serve a warrant on him at his home in Santa Cruz on Wednesday morning.

North-Eastern Division Task Force officers went to Shaquille Morris' house to serve the warrant, at about 3.45 am, when they were shot at.

As they returned fire, Morris got shot and was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope where doctors said he had died. It is unclear what the warrant was for, or if Morris had a record.

Santa Cruz police are to investigate the shooting, which is also expected to be probed by the Police Complaints Authority.
