ICT lab for adult learning opens

WITH the aim of increasing resilience and sustainability among the most vulnerable population in our society, the Social Development and Family Services ministry has partnered with Digicel Foundation to launch an Information Communication Technology(ICT) lab that will be used to conduct literacy classes for adults.

The lab was launched at the Adult Education Programme (AEP) in the Omardeen building on Cipero Street in San Fernando was officially opened by Minister in the ministry Dona Cox and senior government relations representative of the Digicel Foundation, Alicia Hospedales last Friday.

Ten desktops computers were donated by Digicel Foundation with 55 men and women listed to begin using the lab. Delivering the feature address, Cox said that within recent months, the wold has been experiencing dramatic shifts in our relationship with technology which of course come with many positives such as today’s event. She said the new initiative is symbolic of the greater good that can come out of the alliances between the State and the private sector. “Education as you know is a fundamental tool in the fight against poverty. As such through this initiative, the Ministry has also gone one step further in reducing the digital divide and creating avenues for decent work, quality education, and enhanced standards of living.”

As such when entities such as Digicel Foundation rise to the occasion, we must stand and applaud them because their contributions carry the potential to positively change the lives of not only individuals and communities but our entire country and region.” Also present was Permanent Secretary in the ministry Sheila Seecharan.
