New fast ferry by October 31

The first of two new fast ferries will arrive by the end of the month.

Minister of Finance Colm Imbert announced during Monday’s 2020/2021 budget presentation that the APT James will soon arrive and will go into service by end of December.

The boat can hold 926 passengers and 250 cars and can travel at 37.5 knots. He said it can make the inter-island trip in under three hours.

The second vessel, Buccoo Reef, is expected to arrive in 2021. These new vessels will operate alongside the Jean de La Valette, Galleons Passage and the TT Spirit.

The APT James and the Buccoo Reef were built by Austal and Incat shipping companies, respectively.

The arrival of these vessels is expected to bring reliability and efficiency to the seabridge.
