The Division of Tourism, Culture and Transportation is mourning the loss of "cultural icon" Dennis "Sprangalang" Hall. The comedian died on Friday at the Mt Hope Hospital, two days after his 71st birthday.

In a press release on Saturday, the division said it was saddened to learn of Hall's death and extended condolences to his wife Natasha "Sexy Suzie" Nurse, relatives and friends.

"Trinidad and Tobago, the region and the world have lost a multi-talented trailblazer who served with distinction as a comedian, historian, actor, producer, singer/composer and talk show host," the division said.

The division described Hall as a "remarkable gentleman who devoted many decades of his life to furthering the development of this country's arts and culture movement.

"Hall will forever be known for his witty plays and musical offerings that brought joy to people the world over. His passing is a loss for the members of the calypso fraternity, in particular, as we celebrate Calypso History Month during the month of October."

The division said Hall left an indelible legacy on all spheres he entered and his positive contributions will continue to be felt for many years to come."
