5.2 magnitude earthquake hits TT

AREAS in north TT experienced a 5.2 magnitude earthquake on Sunday afternoon, according to the UWI Seismic Research Centre.

The centre said it occurred at approximately 3.12 pm, 51 kilometres north of Arima, at latitude 11.10 N and longitude: 61.25 W, and at a depth of ten kilometres.

It affected areas in Arima, Port of Spain, and Scarborough, Tobago.

In a release, the centre said, “This event has not been reviewed by an analyst. It was automatically located by a seismological computational system, therefore, it is a preliminary result and this may vary when new additional data are processed.”
