Soldier among 4 arrested in police raids

A joint exercise between members of the Western and North Eastern divisions led to the arrest of four people and seizure of a Thompson machine gun, a flare gun and a quantity of drugs and ammunition on Friday night.

Police said the exercise which was led by Snr Supt Maharaj and included ASP Parriman, Insp Ramsingh, Cpls Dill and Gordon took place in an area in Simeon Road, Diego Martin, where police found the weapons and 19 rounds of ammunition.

During the exercise, police were confronted by a man who identified himself as a soldier and attempted to obstruct the police. He was arrested for disorderly conduct and obstructing a police officer. Two other people were held in relation to the weapons.

Police then went to Laventille Road, San Juan, where they found a quantity of marijuana. One man was arrested in relation to this find. Cpls Dill and Gordon are continuing enquiries.
