UWI LECTURER and Newsday columnist Dr Gabrielle Hosein as well as fashion entrepreneur Peter Elias were among four members of the Equal Opportunity Commission (EOC) sworn in by President Paula-Mae Weekes on Wednesday.

Hosein is department head of the University of the West Indies’ (UWI) Institute for Gender and Development Studies.

The swearing-in took place at the Office of the President, St Ann’s.

Ian Roach was sworn in as commissioner and chairman and Hosein as a commissioner and vice chairman. Elias and Kenneth Suratt, executive director of the Blind Welfare Association, were also sworn in as commissioners.

The post said, “After swearing their oaths of office, Her Excellency presented each with instruments of appointment at the socially-distanced ceremony in the ballroom at President’s House.”

Lynette Seebaran-Suite was the commission’s chair for 2017-2020. Dr Beverly Ann-Marie Beckles was vice chair and Eric Colin Cowie, James Chin Chuck and Dr Emanuel Hosein were commissioners from 2017-2020, its website says.
