Pandemic or ‘plandemic’?

THE EDITOR: If previous governments of TT had created a movie franchise for politics/bacchanal, it probably would have had a higher GDP contribution than agriculture. Fortunately for us (citizens), it would only take common sense to see the theatrics, drama productions and fiascos for what they really are – distractions. Unfortunately, willful blindness is another ongoing pandemic.

I believe that many citizens are currently experiencing a pandemic and some are living in a “plandemic.” Let me explain. You may think that I am about to rattle on conspiracy theories or even blabber on how much the Government lies but that is not the case.

Unbeknownst to some, covid19 taught us many lessons. And those who are learning or learned those lessons are staring at the covid19 problems, like how King Leonidas stared at King Xerxes before he died.

Just to spell it out for those who never watched the movie 300, the few that paid attention to the lessons of this plague has changed the narrative. They transitioned from being in a pandemic into being in a “plandemic” simply because they now have plans for their lives.

You would think that by people having their backs pressed against the wall they would somehow find ways to escape, but I guess the phrase “burn to learn” exists for a reason. Having a plan for your life means taking some time and conducting a self-analysis. If people would analyse where they are, where they would like to go and consider their resources, I believe each person would have, at the very least, a sense of direction.

My father told me during the lockdown that many people would pass through covid19 and regress or remain stagnant and others would come out like champions. While some see the pandemic as hopelessness, others see opportunity. While some look to point their finger, others would find ways to improve their lives.

Now before readers misinterpret my view, I am fully aware of the heartache this pandemic has caused. We all feel the brunt of covid19 whether it be unemployment, loss of loved ones, stress from SEA, lack of social gatherings...and the list goes on. But how long would we continue to loaf in our situations?

Now is not the time for distraction. We need to focus because while people (on the ground) wrangle on national concerns, most are not willing to do what is necessary to change our country. My encouragement to everyone is this: vaccinate yourself from wilful blindness.

I am an avid spectator to the politics and bacchanal that try to make our country a banana republic. In fact, I ate a full bowl of popcorn while I watched the verbal boxing matches between Gary Griffith and the Prime Minister (and La Horquetta), private beach owners and Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh and even the nationwide spectacle of overnight financial investment companies (sou-sou).

But by no means should you let these realities deter you from what you need to do to overcome the challenges of covid19. Whether it is valuing family time, taking up entrepreneurship, eating healthy and exercising, learning a skill, commercialising your natural talents, or even starting your own home garden, there are many lessons to learn.

So while Finance Minister Colm Imbert said that the Government must “look for revenues” through property tax, we should also play “treasure hunt” and look for solutions to overcome the challenges of 2020.

In your quiet time, ask yourself this question: Am I in a pandemic or “plandemic”? But don’t take my advice. I am 25 years old and maybe too young for some. But Brother Valentino said, “They are not serious, very few conscious/So I cannot agree with my own chorus/Trinidad is nice, Trinidad is a paradise.”
