Chaguanas woman held for allegedly trying to smuggle cocaine in shoes

A 21-year-old Chaguanas woman is in police custody after she allegedly tried to ship a quantity of cocaine hidden in a pair of shoes.

Police said officers of the Port of Spain Division, Four Roads CID and the Western Division Gang Unit went to a popular shipping agency in Woodbrook on Wednesday afternoon after being told the woman was trying to smuggle drugs.

Police searched the package she wanted shipped and found 65.54 grams of cocaine hidden in two pairs of men's dress shoes.

The woman, who is from Enterprise, Chaguanas, was arrested and is expected to be questioned.
Investigators said the shoes were to be shipped to the United Kingdom.

Police said the estimated street value of the cocaine is $91,500.
