Parliamentary procedural clerk assistant dies

PROCEDURAL clerk assistant and former member of the Rotary Club of St Augustine Sheranne Samuel has died. She was 34 years old.

Statements from the Office of the Parliament, the Opposition Leader and several members of parliament expressed condolences and joined with her family in prayer and mourning.

Newsday understands Samuel died on Sunday night after suddenly falling ill.

“The news of Sheranne’s sudden illness shocked and concerned me deeply,” said Agriculture Minister Clarence Rambharat in a Facebook post. “The work of the Senate and the various committees I serve on required regular contact with Sheranne and other Parliament staff. It is difficult to comprehend the quick events and Sheranne’s loss.”

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said: “All members of parliament across the political divide will always be grateful for her determined approach on the job, her polite efforts as well as her friendly personality as they offered invaluable support to our tasks within the Parliament. I myself remain eternally grateful for having known someone as hard-working and determined as Sheranne.”

The Rotary Club said she was a charter member of her club who served as a director and president and was known for her quiet and kind disposition.

‘Sheranne was a friend, confidant and inspiration to many. May her light continue to shine in our hearts and may she rest in eternal peace,” said the club.
