Fix those potholes across country

THE EDITOR: I am appealing to the relevant authority to please attend to the numerous potholes around the country. From a common-sense point of view I think it should start with the biggest (deepest) ones on the most used roads.

I live in Port of Spain so obviously I encounter the ones in the capital city and environs, eg from Laventille/Belmont to Diego Martin and Carenage. I'm not talking about a total resurfacing, multi-billion dollar job. God knows the Government does not have the funds for that, especially in this covid19 crisis. But surely it can dig up a few million dollars (ask the pyramid people for a loan) to work on what we can label “project pothole.”

Some of the potholes that I encounter I am able to evade. Having known them for so many years, I know where they are. I have become so familiar with them that I am tempted to give them names.

Seriously though, someone from "out of town" travelling at night and not knowing the potholes could seriously damage their vehicle or, worst, cause a fatal accident trying to avoid them. Others have written about this before but it can never be emphasised enough. As a famous quote goes: "There is no substitute for attentive repetition."

Some people have said to me, "Why complain, they will not do anything about it." Not so, I say. Have faith.

I sincerely hope we don't have to wait until the next election year, though.

I am tempted to drive around and locate and advise on the potholes, but only if they will be repaired. I'm not going to waste time and gas if nothing will be done.
