Industrial Court member receives national mediation award

The National Mediation Awards (NMA) 2020 and Diversity and Inclusion award has been given to director emerita at Dialogue Solutions Ltd and Industrial Court member Elizabeth Solomon.

The NMA, which was established in 2007, celebrates and rewards best practice across all forms of mediation. The Diversity and Inclusion awardee’s work in improving diversity and inclusion in mediation, representation in dispute resolution regardless of nationality, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, gender or age, the promotion of mediation and action in human rights protection and combating any form of direct or indirect discrimination in mediation is recognised.

Solomon is a member of the Mediation Board of TT and this country’s representative on the Women Mediators across the Commonwealth Network.

Her work in mediation, diversity, inclusion and human rights spans over various institutions, having had 17 years as a conflict prevention and peace-building practitioner with the United Nations (UN) and OXFAM, an international non-governmental organisation.

She also spent five years at various institutes in the Netherlands such as the Institute for Social Studies in Den Haag and Institute of Human Rights in Utrecht. Later, she worked at the department of political affairs at UN headquarters in New York and then as the peace and development adviser to Sierra Leone to support the transition from peace keeping to the development mandate of the UN country team.
