Cocorite man charged with child cruelty

A 26-year-old Cocorite man was charged on Sunday with beating an eight-year-old child.

A police report said the boy said the man used tie straps and to bind his hands and feet while he slept, before cuffing and kicking him several times. His twin brother was also in the room when the incident happened.

Police said the child received mild injuries. Relatives reported the incident to officers in the Western Division Child Protection Unit and the matter was investigated.

The man was arrested on September 23 and was subsequently charged with one count of child cruelty. He was scheduled to appear before a Port of Spain magistrate on Monday.
