Tobago has recorded its second covid19-related death.

The Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development said in a statement on Friday, the victim was a 57-year-old woman with co-morbidities.

She passed away on Republic Day.

Health Secretary Tracy Davidson-Celestine expressed condolences to the victim’s family.

She said, “This is a most difficult time for the family and loved ones of the woman we lost to covid19. Let us support them with our thoughts and prayers at this time. Every person we lose to this monster pandemic is one too many.”

Davidson-Celestine also urged Tobagonians to protect their loved ones.

“We must do what we can to protect our loved ones. Mask up, wash your hands, follow the guidelines, it will save lives. We cannot think it won’t be me or you.”

Tobago recorded its first covid19 death in April.

The division also revealed one more person has tested positive for covid19, taking the overall total to 59. All established protocols were implemented, inclusive of contact tracing, which is ongoing. There are 14 active covid19 cases on the island. Five people are at the treatment facility, one patient is in ICU and eight at a step-down facility.
