SEVERAL people who on Wednesday went to pay their light bill said they are looking forward to seeing a reduction in their electricity bill with the introduction of LED bulbs by the TT Electricity Commission (T&TEC). The distribution process started on Monday and continued on Wednesday throughout the country.

At TTEC’s Cipero Street branch in San Fernando customers arrived as early as 8 am to pay their bills and collect their new bulbs.

They thanked the commission for the new initiative as many of them said due to the pandemic many families are struggling to make ends meet and pay their bills including T&TEC.

“The bills don’t stop, so if they have found a way to reduce our electricity bill. I am thankful. It will be a great help for me.” said 80- year old Jobe Joseph. He said he heard about the initiative and was more than excited to receive his bulb.

“I am hopeful,” Joseph of La Romaine said. Richard Lochan echoed similar sentiments. He said he is hopeful to see a reduction in his T&TEC bill. “We all aware of the current times, things times are hard.” Each household was given four bulbs.

During the launch of the programmeT&TEC chairman Keith Sirju had stated that one of the aims of the project is to reduce energy wastage. He said the switch to LEDs reduces the demand for electricity and lessens the amount of natural gas used in electricity generation
