The number of new daily cases of covid19 has been on the decline in September.

Dr Avery Hinds, technical director of the Epidemiology Division of the Ministry of Health, said there was a spike in cases on September 2, possibly due to the “last lap” activities that occurred before the closing of bars and beaches two weeks earlier.

“Since then we have seen that downward trend and we are hoping that trend is continued.”

During the Ministry of Health covid19 press conference on Saturday, Hinds noted that the number of deaths remains at 60. Fifty-seven per cent of the positive cases were in the 25 to 49 age group, 16.9 per cent were under 25, 13.9 per cent were between 50 and 59, and 12.2 per cent were 60 and over. Of those, over 53 per cent were men and about 46 per cent were women.

In the case of deaths however, over 83 per cent were men and about 16 per cent were female. Thirteen per cent of the deaths were in the under 50 age group, and none of them were women. People between 50 and 59 accounted for 16.6 per cent of deaths, and over 60 accounted for the rest.
