ODAI RAMISCHAND, attorney and father of Samantha Ramischand, apologised to all of TT for his response to statements made by Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh, which was posted on facebook and other forms of social media.

But despite his remorse, he defended his response to Deyalsingh, which hurled profanities at the minister.

Ramischand is the father of Samantha Ramischand, who got herself into hot water after filming herself on what she called a “private beach” and posting the video on social media.

In a six-page release, the attorney apologised to Deyalsingh, his family, all government ministers and parliamentarians, the Commissioner of Polic, Gary Griffith, all police officers as well as every other citizen of TT, including the LBGTQI+ and “others as I do not know their specific designation or description.”

However, amid his regret he defended his statements, saying they were “necessary, requisite, appropriate and commensurate with the gravity of the then prevailing circumstances.”

Supported by a plethora of examples from previous judgments, Ramischand said Deyalsingh violated the judicial process, by trying her and finding her guilty in the court of public opinion.

No charges, criminal or otherwise, have been laid against Ramischand’s daughter so far.

He said Deyalsingh was “bordering on, or may have committed contempt of court if Samantha is now charged,” which could result in an infringement of her rights.

“If Samantha is charged, so be it,” he said. “It is the police who have the power authority and jurisdiction in the matter at this time. If she knowingly and actively violated the law, she, as everyone else, should be charged and face the consequences. I seek no favour and I beg no quarters.”

Ramishand also took those who commented on his spelling to task, saying he had just started using facebook, and had surgery to his left hand which left some of his fingers numb.

“Look, I am writing this article with an ink or fountain pen. I have a large collection of these pens and I only write with these pens. If anyone of you want to know my competence in the English language you can contact all my junior or associate attorneys-at-law.

“Never forget I was the lawyer who represented Lolita Saroop when extradition re-commenced in TT. My knowledge of the law is vast and please don’t challenge me on same, I promise you would regret it.”
