A prisons officer was shot at his Chaguanas home and died at the district health facility a short while later on Friday.

Prisons and police officials report that, at about 6.15 pm, Sherwin Francis, 48, was at his home in Oasis Greens when he was attacked.

Francis heard knocking on his door and when he opened it, three men stormed in and shot him. He was taken to the Chaguanas health facility where he died while being treated. He is the second member of the protective services killed in two days.

Police reported that at about 11.45 pm on Thursday, Osei Morean, a member of the Air Guard was in the front porch of a house, at Pitman Lane, Belmont, when gunshots were heard.

A woman who was with him ran inside for cover and when she returned, she found Morean had been shot.

He was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In a statement, on Friday, National Security Minister Stuart Young said the two murders angered him.

“I am angry and saddened to have had two members of the protective services murdered today. I offer my sincerest condolences to the families and colleagues of these two servicemen and assure them that we are doing all that we can to find the cowards who committed these heinous crimes.”
