A 44-year-old man is expected to appear virtually before a Port of Spain magistrate on Wednesday charged with seven counts of sexual penetration of a ten-year-old child. He has also been charged with one count of attempted suffocation.
The man was arrested on Monday by the North Eastern Division Child Protection Unit after the child told her aunt and grandmother she had been repeatedly raped.
A report was made to the Child Protection Unit, North Eastern Division and PC Hospedales was assigned to investigate.
His investigations revealed that between March 2019 and September 9, 2020 the girl was sexually assaulted on numerous occasions by the suspect. During one encounter he tried to suffocate her with a pillow.
