Two more covid19 deaths

THE country has recorded two more covid19-related deaths, bringing the total number to 53.

In its morning update on Sunday, the Ministry of Health said the latest to die were an elderly man and elderly woman with pre-existing health conditions.

Additionally, the ministry said the number of active covid19 cases increased by 26, taking the total number of active cases to 2,194. Six people were discharged, bringing that total to 772.

It added that the new cases showed results from samples taken during the period September 3-11 and the figure was not representative of the cases over the last 24 hours only.

There are 111 positive patients at hospital – 78 people at the Couva hospital of whom two are in ICU and five in the High Dependency Unit (HDU), while 29 people are at Caura and four at the Arima general hospital.

There are currently 128 people in step-down facilities – seven at UWI Debe, 50 at UWI Canada Hall, and 71 at UWI Freedom Hall.

The ministry said 1,929 patients were in home isolation under monitoring by the County Medical Officer Health offices.

The number of samples submitted to Carpha, UWI and other testing sites was 26,724 and 3.019 samples had tested positive.

The number of unique patient tests done was 23,681while the number of repeated tests was 3,043.
