FRIENDS and family of marijuana activist Nazma Muller, also known as "The Ganja Queen," are hopeful they can secure her bail by the end of the week.

More people have donated towards her bail and a GoFundMe account and a bank account have been set up for donations.

“We are hoping that by the end of this week Nazma will be released from prison when once we acquire $40,000,” said activist Daniel George.

“So far the response is great. The support is tremendous.”

George, along with social activist Dr Wayne Kublalsingh, is expected to visit Muller in prison on Monday.

Muller was charged with possession of over 400 grammes of marijuana last Wednesday.

She was granted $300,000 bail or a cash alternative of $35,000, but her family has been unable to raise the money.

Supporters are trying to raise $35,000 for the bail and a further $5,000 as a down payment for her attorney.

In December, amendments to the Dangerous Drugs Act allowed people to have in their possession up to 30 grammes of marijuana for personal use.
