Covid19 deaths now total 53; almost 50 more test positive

TWO more people have died from covid19 and 49 more people have tested positive for the virus.

The Health Ministry, in its covid19 update on Sunday morning, reported the two deaths were an elderly male and an elderly female, both with co-morbidities. The total now stands at 53.

Of the 49 additional cases, 26 were for the period September 3-11 and 23 for the period September 2-12. The total number of active cases now stands at 2,217, according to the 6 pm update.

Six more people have been discharged and the total now stands at 772.

A total of 1,929 patients have been home-isolated. There are 111 covid19 patients in hospital: 78 at the Couva Hospital, of whom two are in ICU and five are in High Dependency Units; 29 at Caura Hospital; and four at Arima General Hospital.

There are 128 covid19  patients at step-down/transition facilities: 71 at Freedom Hall, University of the West Indies (UWI); 50 at Canada Hall, UWI; and seven at UWI Debe Campus.

The number of samples submitted to Carpha, UWI and other local sites was 26,818. The number of samples which have tested positive is 3,042.
