TT cyclist Campbell competes in Giro Rosa

TENIEL CAMPBELL’S Valcar Travel & Service women’s pro cycling team pedalled to a 10th place finish at the Giro d’Italia Femminile (Giro Rosa) time trial event which got underway in Grosseto, Italy, on Friday.

Campbell and her five Italian teammates – Vittoria Guazzini, Ilaria Sanguineti, Marta Cavalli, Elena Pirrone and Barbara Malcotti – showed grit along the 16.8-kilometre stage one distance and now gear up for Saturday’s challenging 124.8km stage two event.

This hilly route is requires a great sense of strength and is bound to test Campbell’s calibre on the tough European circuit.

After the time trial, Campbell posted to her Facebook page, “A respectable 10th place but as a rider you always want more or think of ways you could have done better to put your contenders in a better position to achieve their goals. Tomorrow we head into the mountains with more than 3000m of climbing. The battleships are coming.”

The Giro Rosa continues daily until September 19 with an array of hilly and flat courses which climax with a 109.9km mountainous journey through Motta Montecorvino, a province in southeast Italy.
