Tunapuna man accused of beating woman with fan on $10,000 bail

A TUNAPUNA man accused of beating a woman with a standing fan appeared in court and was granted $10,000 bail.

Vijay Saith pleaded not guilty before Tunapuna Magistrates' virtual to beating the woman after picking her up and throwing her on a bed.

Saith, 47, of Tunapuna, appeared before magistrate Nalini Singh on Monday. The case was adjourned to November 18.

According to the charge, Saith was at the woman's home on March 2 around 8 pm when they argued. He became disgruntled, picked up the woman by her waist, threw her on a bed, then picked up a fan and began hitting her on the head and upper body. The report said the fan broke and Saith took out the metal pole and continued hitting the woman.

Officers in the Gender-Based Violence Unit, Northern Division, located at the Maloney Police Station, investigated the report which was made on March 7. Saith was arrested and charged on September 6.
