Simmons, Bravo lead TKR to 2020 Hero CPL title
A masterful, unbeaten 138-run partnership from opening batsman Lendl Simmons (84 not out) and Darren Bravo (58 not out) steered the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) to their fourth Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 tournament title.
They defeated the St Lucia Zouks by eight wickets at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, in Tarouba, on Thursday.
Simmons and Bravo led TKR’s successful chase of 155 as St Lucia Zouks were dismissed for 154 in 19.1 overs.
Sent into to bat, the St Lucia Zouks were dismissed for 154 runs after 19.1 overs. Andre Fletcher led the way with the bat by striking 39 while Mark Deyal chipped in with 29. Najibullah Zadran also had a fair knock of 24 and Roston Chase scored 22.
TKR skipper Kieron Pollard (4/30) dismantled the Zouks innings in the penultimate over by grabbing three quick wickets while Fawad Ahmed (2/22) and Ali Khan (2/25) captured two each.
In their turn at the crease, TKR had a shaky start by losing Tion Webster (five runs) and Tim Seifert (four runs). At 19/2, Bravo teamed up with Simmons to reconstruct the innings put on a commanding display to carry the Pollard-led unit to a 157/2 victory.
This is TKR’s fourth Hero CPL title.
