POLICE are searching for a bandit who was shot after he robbed an off-duty policeman of cash and over $10,000 in jewellery on Tuesday.

Police said, at about 3.30 pm, PC Rocke Mitra Gobin was standing near Triple M Equipment, Aileen Road, Block 4, Palmiste, when he was held up at gunpoint.

The officer, who is on vacation, was robbed of $5,000, a gold chain with a gold pendant valued at $4,000, a gold ring valued at $2,000, and a diamond-cut gold bracelet valued at $8,000.

Police said the officer confronted his attacker with his own gun and the man ran off while firing several gunshots that missed the officer.

Police said Gobin shot at the bandit as he jumped into a getaway car that was later found abandoned at Cipero Road near San Fernando. There were bloodstains in the driver’s seat, suggesting the man was injured, and bullet holes in the front door.

ASP Mohammed is leading the investigation.
