Green Screen extends film submission deadline

THE deadline for submission to this year’s Green Screen Film Festival micro shorts mobile film competition Very Short Shorts has been extended to September 14.

In a release, festival director Carver Bacchus said the entity had received several requests from participants to extend the deadline due to covid19 restrictions. He said filmmakers who have already submitted projects can continue to work on their films during the extension and re-submit in time for the new deadline.

Bacchus said the theme for submissions is The New Normal and taps into the uncertainty the world faces in the midst of the covid19 pandemic.

“We’re hearing a lot about this new normal. But, what does it really mean? For us, it presents an opportunity to build or rebuild systems, institutions, spaces and businesses to better serve people and improve lives. We are hoping to inspire filmmakers to explore the many possibilities that lay before us now. What kind of world do we want? These are the ideas I'd like to see explored in these one-minute pieces. And almost everyone has the only equipment required to shoot one – a smartphone.”

Filmmakers are encouraged to explore the impact of the global pandemic on food security, energy security, technology, and transportation.

Green Screen will take place fully online this year due to covid19 restrictions. The competition is accepting submissions from TT nationals in the following categories:

Overall Jury Winner (all ages) with a $12,000 prize;

Youth Jury Winner, ages 12-25, with a $5,000 prize,

People’s Choice Award (all ages) with a $3,000 prize and

#PlantYuhRoots category ages 12-25 where submissions must be focused on issues related to tree planting and agriculture.

The competition will be open to filmmakers of all levels of experience.

The #PlantYuhRoots category is a local response to a regional movement to mobilise youth and people around climate action and environmental awareness by planting one million trees by 2021 across the Caribbean. It is being put on in collaboration with the Caribbean Philanthropic Alliance.
