The deepwater drill ship Invictus is back and is drilling off Trinidad and Tobago’s northern coast.

BHP confirmed this on Thursday, saying the ship is anchored 134 nautical miles off the coast of TT, in Broadside Block 3.

Corporate communications officer Carla Noel-Mendez told Newsday the ship had returned on August 7.

She said BHP’s overriding focus in dealing with covid19 is to ensure the safety and well-being of its staff and that all sanitisation and other protocols outlined by the Ministry of Health are followed.

Last year, the last two wells dug by BHP on its northern licence had mixed results, with one of the wells, drilled in late August, encountering hydrocarbons, and the other being a dry hole.

The Invictus then went to the Gulf of Mexico off the US to complete regulation abandonment work on boreholes there before returning to TT waters.
