40 people now dead from covid19

The total number of people who died from covid19 now stands at 40.

According the the Ministry of Health, the latest death was a elderly man who suffered from other ailments.

In its Thursday morning update, the ministry said 75 additional people tested positive for covid19, bringing the total number of active cases to 1,868. Three of the cases were from Tobago.

It said 13 of the 75 cases are police recruits who were living at Police Training Academy.

The new cases came from samples taken during the period August 29 to September 9.

A total of six people have been discharged, bringing the number of people discharged to 755.

There are 106 covid19 positive patients in hospital.

Thirty of these are at Caura Hospital. There are 76 people at the Couva Hospital and Multi-Training Facility, with five in the intensive-care unit and nine in the high-dependency unit.

The ministry said the 75 new patients will be assessed by the respective County Medical Officers of Health. It said 1,570 patients have been isolated at home and monitored by health officials.

There are 117 people in step-down facilities. This number includes five at the UWI, Debe campus, 44 at UWI Canada Hall, and 68 at UWI Freedom Hall, at the St Augustine campus.

The number of samples submitted to the Caribbean Public Health Agency , the UWI and other local sites for testing is 25,995, with 22,952 being unique and 3,043 being repeated. The total number of positive cases since mid-March when the virus reached TT is 2,663.
