MoH: 102 new covid19 cases, 43 from police academy

THE HEALTH Ministry has reported 102 more people have tested positive for covid19, including 43 at the Police Training Academy.

The ministry, in its Wednesday morning covid19 update, said the group housed at the academy was not in circulation with the national community.

It said, "These individuals will be transferred to a public health facility for relevant medical care. All established protocols have been implemented."

The ministry stressed the 102 positive cases show results from samples taken during the period August 29 to September 8 and was therefore not representative of positive cases over the last 24 hours only.

Active cases now stand at 1,705, an increase of 96 compared to the last update.

Six more people were discharged, taking the figure to 749. The number of deaths remained unchanged at 39.

TT has had 2,493 cases overall.

There are 103 covid19 patients in hospital and 1,462 have been home-isolated under monitoring by the county medical officer of health offices.

At the Couva Hospital there are 77 patients, five of whom are in ICU and ten in High Dependency Units, and at Caura Hospital there are 26.

There are 38 covid19 patients at step-down/transition facilities, with 32 at Freedom Hall at UWI, five at UWI Debe Campus, and one at the National Academy for the Performing Arts.

The number of samples submitted to Carpha, UWI and other local sites was 25,796, unchanged from the Tuesday afternoon update. The number of unique patient tests completed is 22,874 and there have been 2,922 repeated tests.
