Hunt for wounded bandit who robbed off-duty cop

POLICE are searching for a bandit who was shot after he robbed an off-duty policeman of cash and over $10,000 in jewellery on Tuesday.

According to a police report at about 3.30 pm, PC Rocke Mitra Gobin was standing near Triple M Equipment, at Aileen Road, Block 4 in Palmiste when he was held up at gunpoint.

The officer, who is on vacation leave, was robbed of $5,000, a gold chain with a gold pendant valued at $4,000, a gold ring value at $2,000, and a diamond-cut gold hand band value at $8,000.

According to police, the officer managed to retrieve his pistol and confronted his attacker who ran off firing several gunshots which missed the officer.

Police said Gobin shot at the bandit as he jumped into a getaway car which was later found abandoned at Cipero Road near San Fernando.

There were bloodstains in the driver’s seat and bullet holes to the front door.

Investigators believe that the man was injured.

ASP Mohammed is leading the investigation.
