A 30-year-old man from Plymouth, Tobago was granted bail by a Scarborough magistrate after being charged with kidnapping, malicious damage and inflicting bodily harm against a female companion.

Alyandro Dumas appeared virtually before Magistrate Jo-Anne Connor on September 1. He was not called upon to plead.

The magistrate said the conditions to his bail were that he is to have no contact with the alleged victim, must not visit the victim's home and must not be within 150 feet of her. He was granted $85,000 fixed bail or cash bail with a deed in the sum of $15,000.

It is alleged that on August 29, Dumas was with the victim at a house in Belmar Trace, Buccoo, when they had an argument. Dumas demanded that she get into his car, and when she refused he took away her cellphone, valued at $2,740 and threw it on the ground, damaging it.

The victim alleged that Dumas then bit her near her right eye, threw her to the ground and punched her several times.

Dumas then allegedly picked her up, threw her into the back seat of his car, locked the doors and drove off.

Afraid for her life, she threw herself out of the car.

Shirvan Road police responded to areport and arrested Dumas.

The victim was taken to the Scarborough General Hospital, where she was examined and discharged.

Dumas was charged with the offences on August 31.

The matter was adjourned to September 29.
