Social interactions are driving the second wave of the covid19 virus.

In a Ministry of Health virtual press conference on Monday morning, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh said the second wave is coming from young people who do not adhere to social-distancing rules or wear masks.

“What’s is partially driving our second wave is the demographic of 25s to 49s who are taking the virus home, infecting the family and elders,” he warned.

He said even though wearing masks is now law, there are still people not wearing masks or young people wearing them incorrectly.

He said another cause of the surge in the virus is people are going to work while ill and infecting other employees at their workplaces. He said this is putting a strain on the health sector.

“We can’t legislate against it, but we are making an appeal.”
Deyalsingh also warned young people against having “underground” parties. He said this is a growing issue and can harm those who are at high risk from the virus.
