35th covid19 death, 4 more cases

THE country has recorded another covid19-related death, bringing the total number of deaths to 35.

In its morning update on Monday, the Ministry of Health said the latest fatality was an elderly man with pre-existing health conditions.

Additionally, the ministry said the number of active covid19 cases increased by four, taking the total to 2,254.

Ten people were discharged, bringing that total to 734.

It added that the new cases showed results from samples taken during the period August 28-September 6 and the figure was not representative of the cases over the last 24 hours only.

There are 105 patients in hospital – 77 people at the Couva hospital, of whom six are in the ICU and 12 in the High Dependency Unit (HDU), and 28 at Caura.

There are currently 38 people in step-down facilities – four at UWI Debe, 33 at UWI's Freedom Hall and one at NAPA.

The ministry said 1,338 patients were in home isolation being monitored by the county medical officer of health offices.

The number of samples submitted to Carpha, UWI and other testing sites is 25,140.

The number of unique patient tests completed is 22,218 while the number of repeated tests is 2,922.
