RBC Royal Bank encouraged patrons to adhere to health regulations including mask wearing and physical distancing measures, days after images of massive crowds gathering outside their banks popped up on the media last week.

Responding to questions posed last week, RBC Royal Bank TT managing director Gretchen Camacho-Mohammed listed the measures the bank is taking to protect people who gather in crowds, but added that people have a personal responsibility to protect themselves and their loved ones.

“We have placed markers outside our locations to encourage people to maintain the internationally accepted two-metre/six-foot distance between each other,” she said.

She added that staff prioritises serving senior citizens as quickly as possible, and has separate booths exclusively for senior citizens on the first and third, and on the 15th and 16th of each month.

“On these days we also open 15 minutes earlier and dedicate our first 45 minutes to serving seniors only.” Inside the banks they undertake a more rigorous cleaning routine, and put branch capacity limits in place to stay in line with health regulations for banks.

RBC also actively promoted the use of digital, mobile, ATM and Advice Centre call centre channels for day to day banking transactions, which would lessen the necessity for people to physically visit a bank. Camacho-Mohammed said people have been very receptive and taking advantage of the online options offered by the bank. The rest, is up to the patrons.

“Our expectation is that persons will follow the guidelines and orders issued by governments and public health authorities on physical distancing and the mandated wearing of masks,” Camacho-Mohammed said.

On Wednesday last images on the front page of the TT Newsday captured large crowds gathering outside the RBC Royal Bank TT’s Independence Square branch. Concern was later raised by Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, on the lack of social distancing seen in the photo.
